Tour Program

Arrival and transfer to Horakelle coconut plantation approximately 30 minutes from the airport. Morning at leisure. In the afternoon, visit the village of Dunagaha and its surroundings by Tuk-Tuk, the traditional three-wheeler. Points of interest include a pineapple plantation, a coir (coconut fiber) factory and discovery of the tradition of artisanal weaving and brick making. The bewitching aromas in the spice grinder’s hut will plunge you headlong into the micro-cosmos that is Sri Lanka. Return to the plantation, where dinner and a relaxing night await.
After breakfast, tour of Negombo with its traditional fishing port, its quaint main street and lovely beaches. Afterwards continue on to Alankuda, 15 minutes from Kalpitiya. On the way, there will be the possibility of visiting   the Tanivelle Shrine at Madampe (known for its imposing white horse statue) as well as the great Hindu temple of Munneswaram, near Chilaw. Dinner and overnight in Alankuda.
Wake up early in the morning to go dolphin and blue whale watching (between December and April). Afterwards visit the small town of Kalpitiya and the Church of Thalawila. Rest of the day to enjoy the beach. Dinner and overnight in Alankuda.
After breakfast, take a tour of Wilpattu National Park, home to a cornucopia of wild animals such as elephants, the Sri Lankan leopard, the Lankan bear, Sambar deer and much more. Though the high season falls between January and March, the park may be visited all year round.

Optional extra: in the late afternoon (or following morning) take a tour of Anuradhapura city.

Dinner and overnight in Alankuda.
In the morning, make your way to Mannar, located in a region known for its many migratory birds   (October- March). En route and as an optional extra:  visit Thanthirimale Rock Temple.

Upon arrival, tour of Mannar city, including a visit of the famous Madu Church. Dinner and overnight in a guest house.
After breakfast, continue North through a country dotted with many quaint little villages. Arrive in Jaffna. Dinner and overnight. (Standard itinerary).


Possibility of returning by seaplane to Colombo or of continuing south (to visit other cultural sites or to begin a seaside holiday). If you choose this option, start your morning with an early visit to Sigiriya with the option of visiting Mihintale en route (a small monastic complex with many dagobas and a striking statue of the Buddha). Dinner at your overnight hotel. (the rest of the itinerary will be arranged on demand, according to your wishes).
In the morning, take a tour of Jaffna city. The afternoon is free of programming to enable you to discover the sights at your own leisure.

Optional extra:  visit to Point Pedro (located on the northernmost tip of Sri Lanka and housing many colonial vestiges) and the Hindu temple of Villipuram.

Dinner at your overnight hotel.
In the morning, transfer to Colombo airport (by airplane or car) or to your seaside hotel. As an optional extra you can also spend an extra day in Jaffna to visit Delft Island, an island known for its spectacular wild horses.
