  • DAY 1

    Airport – Hunumulla

    Pick-up at the airport and short transfer to Ambarella Lodge, located in the heart of a coconut estate, 25 minutes from the airport. Enjoy the pool, the garden and the special atmosphere created by the majestic coconut trees. Dinner and overnight at Ambarella Lodge.

  • DAY 2

    Hunumulla

    After breakfast it is time to get a first glimpse of Sri Lankan country life, a Tuk-Tuk will take you to the nearby village and area surrounding the coconut plantation. Visit a pineapple farm, learn about the different plants and spices, visit a coir factory and see weavers at work. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the pool or an optional excursion to Negombo or Colombo can be arranged against supplement. Dinner and overnight at Ambarella Lodge.

  • DAY 3

    Hunumulla - Dambulla - Sigiriya

    After breakfast, depart for Sigiriya. On the way you will visit to the cave temple, or the Golden Caves as they’re also called, in Dambulla. The 5 large caves are home to more than 150 statues of Buddha illustrating different eras of Sri Lankan art. Arrival in Sigiriya in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight in Sigiriya.

  • DAY 4

    Sigiriya - Introduction to cricket

    The day starts with a visit to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of Sri Lanka’s most awe-inspiring sights. This fortress was both a royal retreat and a historical art gallery. Built in the 5th century as a protection from invasion, it dominates the scenery at a height of 180 meters. We will climb up to the first level where you can see beautiful rupestrian paintings and two enormous lion paws. Older children, and brave adults, can climb all the way up for a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside.

    The visit to Sigiriya will be followed by an initiation into the Sri Lankan national sport; cricket. Meet a team of boy from the village, get a short explanation of the rules, see a small demonstration and then it’s time to join the team for a game (for children from 7 years and up, minimum 2 persons)!

    Return to the hotel in the afternoon and rest of day at leisure. Dinner and overnight in Sigiriya.

  • DAY 5

    Sigiriya - Habarana - Minneriya - Sigiriya

    Morning free to enjoy a leisurely start for the day. Late in the morning, if it is a school day, visit a typical Sri Lankan village school.  The tour continues with an exciting ox cart ride and then it is already time for lunch, which will be served at the home of a villager. In the afternoon, jeep safari to Minneriya National Park, known for its numerous elephant herds. Dinner and overnight in Sigiriya.

  • DAY 6

    Sigiriya - Kandy

    After breakfast, departure for Kandy, an academic and religious city set in the heart of a gentle and hilly landscape. If you wish, stop at a spice garden on the way. Arrival in Kandy followed by a stroll around the lake and stop at a small playground, depending on the age of the children. Dinner and overnight in Sigiriya.

  • DAY 7

    Kandy - Elephant Foundation - Kandy

    First stop of the day; the Millenium Elephant Foundation, a camp that welcomes old working elephants for their well-deserved retirement after years of service in the temples. You will be able to walk through the forest together with an elephant and then watch them enjoying a bath. Return to Kandy for some free time. In the afternoon, visit of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic: the most revered Buddhist sanctuary in Sri Lanka. Dinner and overnight in Kandy.

  • DAY 8

    Kandy - Tea plantations - Kandy

    After breakfast, zip through traffic in a local Tuk-Tuk which will take you to the Kandy station where you will embark on a train ride to Gampola (approx. 45 min.). From Gampola a car will take you to Ramboda Falls, a spectacular double waterfall. The trip continues through beautiful tea plantations all the way to a tea factory. Here you will meet a tea plucker who will take you by Tuk-tuk to the field and explain and show the process of tea plucking. Then it is time for you to carry your own basket on your head and pluck some tea! Afternoon return to Kandy by car. Dinner and overnight in Kandy.

  • DAY 9

    Kandy - Airport or beach holiday

    Transfer to the airport for flight back to Europe or to the Maldives, or transfer to your beach hotel. Possibility to add extra night at Ambarella Lodge before departure.
