  • DAY 1

    Hunumulla

    Pick-up at the airport and short transfer to Ambarella Lodge, located in the heart of a coconut estate, 25 minutes from the airport. Enjoy the pool, the garden and the special atmosphere created by the majestic coconut trees. Dinner and overnight at Ambarella Lodge.

  • DAY 2

    Hunumulla - Sigiriya

    After breakfast, departure for Sigiriya. Afternoon climb up to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of Sri Lanka’s most awe-inspiring sights. This fortress was both a royal retreat and a historical art gallery. Built in the 5th century as a protection from invasion, it dominates the scenery at a height of 180 meters. Here you will be able to admire beautiful rupestrian paintings, two enormous lion paws and a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside. Return to the hotel and enjoy an Ayurvedic massage. Dinner and overnight in Sigiriya.

  • DAY 3

    Sigiriya - Habarana

    Today’s program starts with a visit to a local black-smith to get acquainted with his work. Next on the program is a visit to a spice grinder, you will have the opportunity of discovering the spices that give the Sri Lankan food its delicious aromas.

    The tour continues to a local traditional dance teacher’s house for lunch. The visit concludes with a presentation of traditional Sri Lankan dances.

    After lunch, continuation to Elephant Watch Hut. After having settled in to your “Paela”, tree-hut, it is time for a nature walk and bird watching. Return by Tuk-Tuk to your camp for an authentic Sri Lankan dinner. Overnight at Elephant Watch Hut.

  • DAY 4

    Habarana - Kandy

    After breakfast departure for Kandy. Check-in to your hotel and in the afternoon city tour and visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth of Buddha, the most revered Buddhist sanctuary in Sri Lanka. Dinner and overnight in Kandy.

  • DAY 5

    Kandy

    First stop of the day; the Millenium Elephant Foundation, a camp that welcomes old working elephants for their well-deserved retirement after years of service in the temples. You will be able to walk through the forest together with an elephant and then watch them enjoy their bath.

    In the afternoon it is time for a visit to Peradeniya Botanical Garden, renowned for its impressive collection of orchids, its spice garden, medicinal plants as well as a magnificent alley of coconut trees. Dinner and overnight in Kandy.

  • DAY 6

    Kandy - Ella (by train)

    Breakfast and then transfer to the railway station. The journey takes you past tea plantations, mountains and rolling hills. Situated at an elevation of 1100 metres, Ella is a small village located in the heart of the mountains. Arrival at the station and transfer to your guest house in the midst of nature and your simple, but clean room with private bathroom. Dinner and overnight in Ella.

  • DAY 7

    Ella (trekking)

    After breakfast time for a trek (accessible for everybody) together with your host from the guesthouse. The tour includes an easy climb up to Little Adam’s Peak and a delightful walk through surrounding tea estates. Stop at a tea factory to watch the tea production and then continue to the waterfalls of Rawana and Ella Wala (by jeep). Enjoy a swim and lunch in the delightful setting. Return to Ella for dinner and overnight.

  • DAY 8

    Ella - Yala

    Departure for the south-east coast and the popular national park of Yala (closed 01.09-15.10) for a 2-hour jeep safari. The park shelters elephants, crocodiles, buffaloes, jackals and hundreds of bird species. This is also one of the places where very lucky visitors may spot the elusive Sri Lankan leopard.

    Overnight in a camp (tents with beds and private bathrooms).

  • DAY 9

    Yala - Bundalla - Tangalle

    After breakfast, departure for a jeep safari in Bundala National Park, home to numerous aquatic birds. It is one of the last refuges for the pink flamingos of Sri Lanka. Crocodiles, monkeys, turtles as well as elephants also populate the park.

    After the safari, continuation to Tangalle. Discover the lagoons and beautiful sand beaches bordered by coconut trees.

  • DAY 10

    Tangalle - Airport or beach stay

    Transfer to the airport for flight back to Europe or to the Maldives, or transfer to your beach hotel. Possibility to add extra night at Ambarella Lodge before departure.
